Apple Esge Andersen, who works for an acoustic company, told What Hi-Fi? Engineer in an interview why 2nd generation AirPods don’t have Lossless quality.

With today’s Bluetooth settings and codecs, Apple can still improve audio quality, Anderson says, but reliability remains a top priority for the company.

It is important to understand that we are still making great strides without changing the codec. And the choice of codec we have today is more about reliability.

We want to improve the sound quality, and we can do it with other elements. We don’t think the codec is currently lacking in sound quality in Bluetooth products.
