WhatsApp owner Meta continues to look for ways to improve your privacy in the chat app. There are three new privacy options for WhatsApp. This changes.

A while ago, WhatsApp introduced the option to control exactly which of your contacts can see when you last opened the app, what your status and profile picture is, and more. The following related privacy options are also available:

1. Leave groups unnoticed

You know how it goes with WhatsApp groups. It’s nice to get all kinds of funny photos and videos in the beginning, but at some point it’s ready. If you leave a group conversation now, this will immediately appear in the chat: Pete left the group. This may not suit everyone in the group.

To avoid friction within the group, you’ll soon be able to leave a group conversation unnoticed, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently announced. Of course you can see that someone is no longer in the group app, but by default there will no longer be an insider notification. Only group admins will see the notification.

Soon you will not receive notifications when someone leaves the group conversation.

2. Hide Online Status

In the new update of WhatsApp, you can decide for yourself who can see when you are online. If you enable this option, not everyone can see that you are in the app to read a message. The word ‘online’ no longer appears below your name at the top of a chat window.

It was already possible to disable read receipts so that others cannot see whether you have read a message or not. The option to hide your status already appeared in the test version of the app in July of this year. The feature will be coming to all versions of the chat service soon.

3. No More Screenshots

Another new privacy option concerns the one-time view on WhatsApp. As the name suggests, WhatsApp allows you to send photos and videos that can only be viewed once by the recipient. The sent media is not stored on the recipient’s device and cannot be transmitted.

Unfortunately, the one-time view option isn’t entirely foolproof at the moment. In this way, you can take a screenshot or screen record of the media before the photos and videos are lost. And then of course it’s not really a one-shot screen anymore.

To counter this, WhatsApp will now block one-shot screenshots, similar to Snapchat. While in principle it is still possible to take a screenshot, for example, with a second phone, saving a one-time photo or video has become much more cumbersome.

Snapchat does not allow you to take screenshots of ‘snapshots’. WhatsApp will introduce a similar function.

WhatsApp users usually don’t get all the new features at once. If you don’t see the options yet, you’ll have to be a little patient. In any case, make sure you always have the latest version of WhatsApp on your device that makes a difference!
