Microsoft has released a new Windows 11 build for Insiders: Preview Build 22616. With this release, it’s possible to re-move icons in the hidden system tray and introduced a new Xbox Controller Bar.

At the end of March, the developers of Windows 11 decided to make it impossible to rearrange the icons in the hidden system tray. The idea was to improve the experience for tablet users who sometimes accidentally drag icons. Many Insiders were not happy with the arrangement, so Microsoft decided to let the system tray work as usual for now. But the developers hope to implement the change after some improvements.

People with Xbox controllers can try the new Controller Bar feature. The bar appears after pressing the Xbox button and provides a small overview of recently played games and game launchers used. Once in the game, pressing the Xbox button will continue to open the regular Xbox Game Bar.

Additionally, Microsoft informs Insiders that it will soon become easier to switch between Dev and Beta channels. The channels currently run on the same Windows 11 build, so switching is a matter of changing a setting. That’s about to change: Versions on the dev channel may receive a higher build number and migration will only be possible by reinstalling Windows from scratch.
