The person who did it is Tesla owner and ostensibly body modification enthusiast Brandon Dalaly. While its chip is a new design, it’s far from the first to put hardware in its body to control a Tesla.
But in 2019 USA Today published a story about software engineer and body modifier Amie DD and her chip to unlock a Tesla.
This work precedes the beta chip and includes an alternative approach: The engineer removed the NFC tag from the car key card and placed it in a bio-safe polymer before placing it on his arm.
To do this, he worked with a company called VivoKey that made the NFC chip implantable and produced a product called TeslaFlex, which can be purchased from well-known biohack shop Dangerous Things.
Disadvantage of TeslaFlex it’s just that it can unlock the Tesla, but not allow it to be started.
Tesla keys run software called Java Card, which is used for secure communication between the card and the car.
