AT Western world, from HBO Max, all is not what it seems. Or it was the maximum in three seasons and the first chapter of the fourth. No reality, no motives, let alone death.

In the new part, the series by Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan once again demonstrates its cold and sophisticated sense of chaos. And he does it the way he does best. A return with no obvious explanation for a character who was presumed dead in the previous season.

It all happened in the last scene of the first chapter. Throughout the dispute, the return Western world clarified a few things. Time has passed differently for all the characters, and especially for Dolores, played by Evan Rachel Wood. A character who was considered destroyed (at least in his original body) in the previous season, reappeared with a new identity. The one that showed her as Christina, a video game writer in human form with a routine life. More disturbingly, it turns out that Dolores/Christina appears to be unaware of her synthetic nature.

Especially about the bloody past that he lived seven years ago. Actually, Western world he goes out of his way to show that the character can get caught in a kind of loop again. and it does recreating images about Dolores/Christina’s recurring quality of life. But despite this, some things seem to break the soft silence in which he lives. One of them is the phone calls you receive from a stranger asking for help.

The other is from strangers who accuse him of being in control of his surroundings, or at least manifesting some unknown power. In the second part of the chapter, it becomes clear that Dolores/Christina is more than just a harmless corporate employee.

And that, in fact, it can play a more than important role in everything that happens under the surface in Western world. That’s when a little revelation happens that makes it clear that the show is betting on a quick end to the Dolores/Christina cycle. The appearance of the main character in his life.

A small but relevant scene in the first chapter of Westworld.

That’s when the head Western world ends with what appears to be a turning point in Dolores/Christina’s seemingly harmless life. After a violent street fight, witnessing a suicide and feeling threatened, the character returns to his apartment. There she tries to organize her thoughts in the midst of a confused feeling of being watched, or at least mysteriously analyzed.

For a few moments, he is shown on the establishment’s balcony as he writes down a few lines that he will likely include in one of his games. “No one cares about the girl’s story,” he says, and returns to the apartment. The camera pans to the scene and shows that in the darkness of the street, someone has been watching Dolores/Christina for a long time.

The figure takes a couple of steps and that’s when Teddy Flood (James Marsden) is found standing and unharmed. As you remember, the character died in the second season. As a symbol of goodness, beloved and, finally, the right hand of Dolores, the character was devastated by cruel circumstances. And he dies in the midst of Dolores’ need to ignite a general robot uprising against humans.

His return to the world Western world makes clear that the robot uprising is more than just a strategy hidden behind high-level financial and corporate movements. Teddy’s return implies that someone – or something – knows about his influence on Dolores. which in turn seems to indicate that Dolores is a much simpler piece on the board. in which he was included for mysterious reasons. With Teddy (now beyond her control, no doubt), the balance of control that Dolores exercised changes. But also, it gets cloudier and weirder. Is this really the personality of Teddy from the park, or a copy with the exact intentions? Is Dolores herself related to a character we’ve met in other seasons?
