Twenty years have now passed since the last episode of Ally McBealone of the most beloved series of the turn of the century, still loved and an inspiration today (see the recently launched series on She-Hulk for Disney+): ABC would apparently like to revive those times with a direct sequel, in collaboration of course featuring the original protagonist, Calista Flockhart.

While the idea is that there will be a temporary-level direct sequel, everything would have to be configured as a spin-off along the lines of what happened to Creed compared to the Rocky of Ghostbusters saga: Legacy with Ghostbusters, or a “Transfer” between the old guard and the new. The main character could be the daughter of Renée Raddick, Ally’s roommate in the original series. His daughter, a young black lawyer with high hopes, was supposed to work in the same office where McBeal initially made his career. However, no other details about the plot and characters have been released, even though the production wants Calista Flockhart to return not only as a producer but also as a guest star, at least for some key episodes. We’ll see: early last year there was already fear of a possible revival, of seemingly being forgotten.
