Alan Jones, the event’s artistic director, said:

The 2022 edition contains a rich cosmic fantasy program, which represents a true ‘Back to the Superfutures’. What was already an exhaustive snapshot of the fantastic genre is enriched with new previews, projecting the Trieste Science + Fiction Festival onto the world stage, featuring very current science fiction works. That was my goal when I took on the prestigious position of Artistic Director: to bring epic, spectacular, evocative and stimulating science fiction back to the Trieste Festival. As we all know, science fiction is the ideal genre to spread new ideas and analyze society. Thanks to the creation of very different worlds, the birth of new species, the construction of futuristic architectures and the exploration of a large number of neocultures, our minds expand and thus make the impossible possible, by discussing deeply human themes and those important to U.S. I invite everyone to join the Trieste Science + Fiction Festival in its new grand journey to discover the extreme frontiers of the multiverse, where the ‘Superfutures’ will be your story.

Among the new films that we will see on the big screen of Trieste Science + Fiction in national preview, “The Breach” (Canada, 2022) directed by Rodrigo Gudiño and produced by the musician Slash, legendary guitarist of Guns N ‘Roses, with the story centers on the mysterious case of a mutilated body that ended up on the banks of the Porcupine River.

Many proposals come from the East, including the preview of “Warriors of the future” (Hong Kong, 2022) by Yuen Fai Ng, a spectacular sci-fi action set in the year 2055, when a meteorite brings an alien plant life to Earth that strikes the planet, destroying everything in its path. Always in an Italian preview it will be too “alien(South Korea, 2022) by Choi Dong-hoon, distributed in Italy by Minerva Pictures: a South Korean action film featuring aliens, martial arts, time travel and a real blockbuster budget, with the story centered around two gurus of the Goryeo dynasty (918-1392) in search of a legendary blade that bends time.Chi Zhang’s “Annular eclipse” (China, 2021) arrives as an Italian preview from China, an obscure sci-fi work with a Cyberpunk aesthetic that gives us will drag into a story of power games, intrigue and computer manipulation

The visionary director’s cinema also returns to Trieste Quentin Dupieux with the preview of “Incredible But True” (France/Belgium, 2022), a bizarre fantasy comedy in which a couple who have just moved into a new house realize that there is something in the basement that could change their lives forever, what if the closing film be shown.

The disaster film can also be seen “The consequences” (England, 2022) by Chris Jones in which only 97 minutes are left before Earth is destroyed by a giant asteroid: what would you do in the little time left? Another Italian premiere will instead be “The Deal” (United States, 2022) of Orsi Nagypál, a dystopian tale in which a mother struggles to save her ailing daughter’s life after an unprecedented pandemic devastates the planet, leaving so scarce resources are left behind that you have to pay them with your life. Also in national preview is Gabriel Grieco’s “To Exist” (Argentina, 2021), close encounters of the Argentine type on a mission in the Cachi Valley, famous for its UFO sightings. Always coming from Argentina in Pablo Parés’ Italian preview “Pussycake” (Argentina, 2022) in which all-female rock band Pussycake has to fight against interdimensional monsters beyond our reality.
