James Gunn confirmed when filming starts Superman: Legacy. The film will be the first to be released as part of the restructuring the director is undertaking in DC Extended Universe WITH Peter Safran. Both came to the franchise last year and have been making adjustments ever since.
Confirmation came during an interview in Wired. James Gunn appeared alongside his brother Sean Gunn to answer various questions. This was done in connection with the recent release Guardians of the Galaxy, Part 3. This is the last film that James Gunn will direct, at least for now, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
For now, with no connection to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, James Gunn’s next direct project will be Superman: Legacy. This film is expected to be a story that will explore a younger version of the figure, as opposed to other adaptations that see him in a more mature phase of life. However, there are still many details to be confirmed.

On April 18, 2023, James Gunn shared a post on his Twitter profile showing the script for Superman: Legacy. A comment was added to this: preparations are underway for filming. This was one of the first pieces of news to come out after the film was presented as part of the long-term DC Extended Universe program.
In the aforementioned interview, James Gunn said the following about Superman: Legacy: “We start filming in January (2024)“. This production is scheduled to premiere on July 11, 2025. That is, work on the record will begin more than a year before the release date. With no commitment to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, his priority will be the DC Extended Universe.

With the departure of James Gunn from the Marvel Cinematic Universe after the end of the saga guardians of the galaxy, completes one of the most famous comic book adaptations in superhero cinema.
