Soon you will be able to use Discord on your PS5. Users of the beta program had the opportunity to test some of the features that we will soon see in the aforementioned console. One of them is Discord integration among PlayStation 5’s core communication featuressomething similar to what Microsoft did by integrating Discord into the Xbox Series X | S.

The beta program, as we recall, is an opportunity that Sony is offering users in Canada, the UK, France, Germany, Japan and the US to test the news that will soon appear on the console. Once its correct work is verified, they will be published and Discord will be no exception.

We have been waiting for integration with Discord since May 2021. Now, you can participate in platform voice chats directly from your PS5. Unfortunately, it is initially necessary that you also use Discord on another device – mobile or computer, since only from there you can start calls.

Discord has taken a similar approach when it comes to Xbox consoles. However, after testing all the features, they included the option call directly from the console last November. So while it’s not possible to do this with your PS5 at the moment, it’s likely that this feature will arrive at a later date.

In addition to Discord integration, Sony has also included other welcome improvements in the PS5 beta software. Now, you can activate the function share screen when you visit a friend’s profile. So, if you want to share with someone what you play on your console, or see what your friend is playing, both options will be available in his contact profile.

On the other hand, now you can manually upload snapshots or clips of your games to the PlayStation app. There is currently a way to do this automatically, but if you only want to transfer certain content, the new beta includes this option.

BRR for PS5

Variable refresh rate (VRR) is another new beta version that supports 1440p resolution. Sony guarantees that you can enjoy excellent visual performance by activating this function. To use it, it is necessary that the game, screen / monitor have VRR support.

Other features of the update are the ability to update the DualSense controller over the air, without connecting to PS5 via cable. A feature has also been added to make it easier to transfer saved data from PS4 to PS5. If you’re installing the game on your PS5 and you already have a PS4 game in the cloud, the console will prompt you to download this data to pick up where you left off.
