The Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation recommended that domestic manufacturers of smartphones and tablets start selling devices on the Aurora operating system (OS) in the consumer segment, judging by the minutes of the meeting with them, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Vasily Shpak.
The developer of Open Mobile Platform company Aurora, owned by Rostelecom, as well as Aquarius, ByteErg, Azimuth, Yadro, F+Tech attended the meeting. Department representatives asked manufacturers to come up with a schedule to port Aurora to their devices.
In addition, the Ministry of Industry and Trade wants to transfer its employees to devices with Russian operating systems and prohibits employees from using tablets from Apple and other foreign manufacturers.
Earlier, Rostelecom proposed the creation of a Russian mobile ecosystem on Aurora, which includes the production and sale of 70 million devices by 2030. The implementation of the strategy worth 480 billion rubles also included reducing the import of foreign devices and promoting software development for the operating system.
