The export of cars from Armenia to Russia increased by more than 200 times

Armenia dramatically increased auto exports to Russia in 2022. In January 2023 it reached $180 million from $800,000 in January 2022, according to the Financial Times.

The newspaper specifies that car dealers in Armenia are buying cars at auctions in the United States, which are considered cancelled. The cars arrive in Armenia via Georgia, are repaired and resold to Russia, with which the country has duty-free trade.

In January 2022, Armenia imported $2.8 million worth of cars from the US. In January 2023, this amount reached $2.8 million, and in April 2023 it was $34 million.

The ban on the export of new and used cars from the United States to Russia has been in force since spring 2022.
