Moscow scientists from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology and Moscow State University have developed a new technology for obtaining a valuable material – nanoceramics. It can be used in telecommunications and medicine. The raw material for nanoceramics is a rare modification of iron oxide, available at a low price.

This material has unique magnetic properties – it is not subject to demagnetization by an external field and absorbs high-frequency electromagnetic waves well. This makes it useful for medical diagnostics, ultra-fast telecommunications systems, and electromagnetic wave detection.

Researchers have found a way to produce epsilon iron oxide with unique properties comparable to rare earth magnets used in aerospace and computer technology. The material is safe for humans and absorbs high frequencies well, which makes it applicable in medicine and telecommunications.

For practical use, the scientists compressed the nanoparticles into tablets and processed them at high temperatures. As a result, the particles turned into nanoceramics with enhanced magnetic properties. This material can be used as a magnetic tape to record information.
