ChatGPT creator OpenAI has acquired an open source digital product development startup, Global Illumination. This is the company’s first known acquisition. The amount of the transaction was not disclosed, writes Reuters.
Global Illumination was founded in New York in 2021. Its founders are Thomas Dimson, Taylor Gordon, and Joey Flynn. They previously worked at Instagram*.
Global Illumination’s latest developments have been related to open source online gaming technologies.
- In early August, OpenAI introduced the GPTBot search bot, which gathers information from the Internet to train the company’s new language models. It will only collect public data, filtering out sources that collect personal information or violate the rules of the service. Also, the bot will not have access to paid content.
- Later, the company began testing an artificial intelligence-based spam identification and cleanup system. The GPT-4 model can complete six months of work in a single day.
