In mid-August, Meghan Markle noticed in the city of Montecito in the state. But this time, it was not the Duchess of Sussex herself who attracted attention, and not her outfit, a patch on the wrist of her left hand.

This is NuCalm, a disposable sticker for human biosignal processing, better known as the “anti-stress patch”.

Ordinary people, scientists and doctors believe that NuCalm is a pseudoscience product that does not affect the state of the body in any way. But for some reason he is interesting to celebrities.

NuCalm Promises to Relieve Stress by Influencing Brain Rhythms

On its website, the company claims that it can bring about the state of the body by matching music to the rhythms of the brain’s rhythms.

The human brain in the course of its work sets temperature fluctuations (frequencies). For example, the beta rhythm is a frequency fluctuation from 14 to 40 Hz at which the brain is best at solving a problem.

According to NuCalm, users can use its application to achieve one state or another. For example, if a person needs to focus before doing work, he can select the appropriate mode and turn on the music that suits him. This music affects brain vibrations, activating the necessary parts of the brain.

In total, NuCalm can affect six options:

▪️ Deep dream: relieves feelings of fatigue

▪️ Recovery: relieves stress, fear, anxiety and depression

▪️ Nap: helps to recover and recharge in 20 minutes

▪️ Focus: provides stability and “removes” all inhibitory factors

▪️ Awakening: provides mental clarity and gives you absolute confidence in any task.

▪️ Creative flow: calms the mind, relaxes and helps the brain generate new creative ideas

NuCalm says its service is the result of 30 years of neuroscience research that has proven and sustained results.

Patches help NuCalm hit the brain faster

NuCalm’s flagship product is a similar application that changes brain vibrations.

The patch that Meghan Markle noticed on her hand helps the app do it faster.

The company calls the key a “disk biosignal box” that “activates the parasympathetic nervous system by acting on the pericardial meridian, created by electromagnetic frequencies of inhibitory neurotransmitters, shorting the HPA (hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal glands) and limiting sympathetic tone.”

Patches are sold in two sets:

▪️ 20 pieces for $80 or 7600 rubles
▪️ 100 pieces for 400$ or 38 thousand rubles

One sticker costs 4 dollars or 380 rubles, it is not sold by the piece. Each sticker is designed to be worn throughout the day.

Patch buyers also pay for a subscription in the NuCalm app. ; access to all anti-stress programs costs $49.99 or 4,700 rubles per month..

There is no scientific evidence for the effectiveness of NuCalm

NuCalm claims 30 years of research and extensive patents, but this is not actually confirmed. The company frequently receives approval for its products from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). But the FDA denies this.

FDA not aware of any legally sold branded medical devices: NuCalm Biosignal Processing Disc.

Professor of Neurology and Medicine at North College London Guy Leshziner believes that many NuCalm claims sound like pseudoscience.

It appeared on pseudoscience. How can you say that 20 minutes of sleep under this device equates to hours of normal deep sleep, I just do not understand.

It doesn’t look like they actually proved anything. They may well support that we are all wrong, but the burden of proof is on them.

The NuCalm website is also criticized, more precisely, how the company describes its products. The New York Post notes that NuCalm advertises the product using pseudo-scientific jargon, which should give buyers the confidence that they have serious business with the medical company.

NuCalm claims that since 2009, US military special forces, the FBI, doctors, pilots, as well as professional and Olympic athletes have received its products. But there is no approval.

NuCalm promoted by coach Tone Robbins and actress Gwyneth Paltrow

Since 2015, coach Tony Robbins has been an “avid user” of NuCalm. He especially likes the program, which promises that in 20 minutes you can get as much sleep as in two hours of normal sleep.

Robbins has been criticized in the past for promoting Neuro-Linguistic Programming, which is a branch of pseudoscience.

When Tony Robbins is at your house, it has to be done carefully.

NuCalm products were also mentioned on the Goop website and online store, which is associated with Gwyneth Paltrow.

But Meghan Markle is by far the most famous NuCalm user. It is not known for sure whether this was a promotional campaign disguised as paparazzi, or whether the Duchess really receives patches.

One thing is certain – After the publication of a photo of Meghan Markle with NuCalm, the popularity of the company has increased dramaticallyas well as the number of orders.

We saw a low spike in sales, website traffic and social media activity less than 24 hours after the news release.

Jim Pool, NuCalm CEO

Pula said the Duchess applies a patch to the inside of her left wrist to slow down the stress response by providing the brain and body with GABA, a naturally occurring amino acid that slows the production of adrenaline.

There is another version of why Megan wears a patch. Rumor has it that she plans to relaunch her own wellness blog The Tig, dedicated to a healthy lifestyle, getting rid of diseases and improving well-being. But so far, none of these theories have been confirmed.
