Moscow Metro filed a request for registration of the word “look” as a trademark. This request relates to equipment for facial recognition, biometric identification, payment of fees and data storage in electronic devices.
The move comes after passengers began to speak frequently of “pay by video” in the context of a face-recognition fare collection system. This system has been used in the Moscow Metro since October 2021 and is called “Biometric Payment”. But the name “Pay at a glance” was also considered.
Many expressed concern about registering it as a trademark, considering the word “appearance” to be too general. But analysts argue that despite possible objections to the word “look” from other copyright holders in similar classes of service, there is a good chance of successful registration.
