Apple this year switched all of its accessories to the modern USB-C port.

Along with them, the old wired EarPods headphones were also updated, complete with the corresponding connector. Japanese blog MacOtakara has learned that EarPods with USB-C truly play Lossless music without compression.

When I connected the new EarPods to the MacBook Air (M1, 2020) and checked the Audio MIDI settings, the headphones ranged from 16-bit/4.1 kHz to 24-bit. I was able to verify that it has a DAC that supports 48 kHz.

Lossless music from Apple Music: maximum 24-bit/48 kHz and Hi-Res Lossless: maximum 24-bit/192 kHz. I was able to verify that the EarPods are compatible to fantastic standards.

Earlier it became known that AirPods Pro 2 also uses Lossless music, but only when working with Apple Vision Pro. [9to5]
