Ed Newton-Rex, Stability AI’s vice president of audio technology, explained that although the company is known for its work with images, this is its first foray into music and audio production. The technology is powered by Harmonai, Stability AI’s music production research studio. Stable Audio works directly with raw audio samples to deliver high-quality output and is trained on over 800,000 licensed music tracks from AudioSparks.

The Stable Audio model has approximately 1.2 billion parameters, similar to the original Stable Diffusion model for rendering. The service offers both free and Pro plans; the latter offers longer routes for a $12 monthly fee.
