Scientists from the federal Arctic Integrated Research Center evaluated how changes in the environment and climate affect the comb bumblebee, a rare bee species. In Europe, this species is becoming increasingly rare and is on the verge of extinction. The bumblebee plays an important role in pollinating plants in the Arctic, where the percentage of bee pollinators is relatively low.

Scientists have found that the carding bumblebee depends on unusual habitats such as secondary grasslands. Reducing such meadows may lead to a decrease in the number of this bee species. The carding bumblebee is already listed as a protected species, but its numbers continue to decline due to human intervention and a decline in pollinating plants.

Changes in climate can also lead to changes in bumblebee habitats. Projections show that the best habitat for most species of this insect group will shift to northern regions, while they may become extinct in central and eastern Europe. It is important to regularly monitor browsing bumblebees as their numbers will continue to decline due to human activities.
