Rosbank spent more than 150 million rubles in two years on the implementation of the digital ruble. We spend most of it on information security (IS), building a gateway between the bank and the Central Bank, as well as paying for the services of highly specialized specialists.

Rosbank named the amount of investments in the implementation of the digital ruble

This was reported by Vedomosti in reference to the presentation of the bank’s director of changes, innovations and data management, Olga Makhova, at the international banking forum of the Association of Russian Banks.

According to her, each transaction is signed with an electronic digital signature and, to make a signature for each online operation, in principle a different information security infrastructure is required.

Significant funds were spent, among other things, on paying for the services of highly specialized specialists who know these technologies.

The Central Bank began work on the creation of a digital ruble in 2021. On August 1, 2023, the main provisions of the law allowing payments in digital rubles in Russia came into force. This currency is completely controlled by the Bank of Russia and represents the third form of Russian currency after cash and non-monetary money. The Central Bank plans to make the digital ruble available to Russians between 2025 and 2027, and digital ruble transfers will be free.
