According to the (16) TIC Household 2023 survey released today by the Brazilian Internet Steering Committee (CGI.br), approximately 64 million households in Brazil have an internet connection. The value shows 84% of homes in the country are connected to the grid, an increase of four percentage points from 2022.

The research showed that the classes that made the most progress in internet use were classes C and DE. The rate of Class C increased from 87% to 91% in 2023, and the rate of DE increased from 60% to 67%.

84 percent of homes have internet. About 156 million Brazilians accessed the network at least once in the three months before the survey.

According to the report, 99 percent of people said they connected to the internet via a smartphone, the most used device. Television (58%) and computer (42%) come in second and third place, respectively.

For mobile phones, the majority of the population (60%) uses a prepaid plan, while 36% of Brazilians use a postpaid plan. Looking at the connection type, 97% of Class A users access the network via Wi-Fi and mobile networks on a mobile phone, while in Class DE, 36% of users access the network only via Wi-Fi and only 11% via mobile networks.

Price and connection speed

The TIC Household 2023 survey also shows some other indicators of internet usage in Brazil. Among the quotes, research shows that the average amount most Brazilians pay for their main internet service is between R$101 and R$150 real.

The second price range ranged from R$ 91 to R$ 100, while the third highest price range was calculated from R$ 71 to R$ 80.

Mobile phone

In terms of speed, 29% of Brazilians use broadband connections of 51 Mbps or higher. But the survey shows another 27% of Brazilians say they don’t have access to fixed broadband.

In fact, in households without internet access, the majority of respondents (55%) said they found the service too expensive.

need for progress

The ICT Households 2023 survey was developed by the Regional Center for Research on the Development of the Information Society (Cetic.br) of the Ponto BR Information and Coordination Center (NIC.br). According to Alexandre Barbosa, director of Cetic.br/NIC.br, there is still progress to be made despite greater internet coverage in the poorest classes.

Barbosa argued that the figures show that there are still inequalities in internet usage and that it is important to reduce these disparities so that everyone can enjoy the benefits the network can offer.

Internet

“Despite the retreat [do número de pessoas sem internet]The number of disconnected Brazilians is still alarming, as many activities and services are offered exclusively or preferentially online. “Not having internet access can mean being deprived of countless opportunities,” he said.
