According to reports, a glitch occurs during the update process, causing the screen to turn off even though the vehicle remains drivable. Rivian VP of Software Engineering Wassim Bensaid agreed, attributing the bug to the wrong assembly being loaded with the wrong security certificates.
The company has since canceled the update campaign and plans to continue with the correct software after beta testing.
Affected customers will be informed of possible resolution options, which may include physical repairs.
