Apple has joined the (RED) initiative, which supports the global fight against HIV/AIDS by creating exclusive products with famous brands and royalties on their sales. To participate, the company launched a red version of the new Apple Watch Series 9 smartwatch, matching the name of the initiative.
The new smartwatch is equipped with a red aluminum case and a matching red sports strap, writes Gizmochina. The Red Apple Watch also has a new Solar Analog face, designed specifically for World AIDS Day. Other features are similar to the standard model.
Founded by Bono and Bobby Shriver in 2006 to fight AIDS, (RED) partners with some of the world’s most iconic brands to create products that benefit the fight against HIV.
The money goes to the Global Fund to support critical programs that train health workers and test new treatments.
Apple has been associated with (RED) since 2006. A portion of the proceeds from smartwatch sales, as always with (RED) initiatives, will be donated to the Global Fund. The new red version can be purchased in the Apple online store and at points of sale for $399.
The Apple Watch Series 9 Red smartwatch is equipped with the S9 chip and a quad-core neural processor. The battery life is 18 hours, the speed is 30% faster than Series 8, and the maximum screen brightness is up to 2000 nits.
