The Gramota.ru portal announced the word 2023 – the noun “neural network”.
The portal chose the word based on data analysis, the frequency of consultations and expert evaluations. The experts also took into account the extent to which the word has been adopted in Russian-language contexts.
Word ranking for 2023 according to Gramota.ru experts
- Neroset – 75% of the votes
- Jipiti/GPT – 58% of the votes
- Base – 43% of votes
- Returned: 41% of the votes
- Prompt/prompt and imba (derived from the imbalance in gaming slang) each received 20% of the votes.
The word “neural network”, the frequency of use of which increased significantly in 2023, has not yet been included in major normative dictionaries.
“Speakers perceive a neural network in an everyday and non-terminological sense as a kind of living being that can be taught, trained and with which they can communicate. This distinguishes it from AI as such, which remains in the consciousness of the masses a complex, incomprehensible, unpredictable and sometimes dangerous technology,” the portal states.
As experts discovered, in a significant part of the contexts the word “neural network” is used as a translation of the English abbreviation AI (artificial intelligence).
“Gramota.ru” is the largest reference and information portal dedicated to the Russian language. It has a word spell check service.
At the end of November, Gramota.ru announced large-scale updates and a redesign of the portal. The service announced the introduction of artificial intelligence technologies that automate some functions.
The portal has already added AI-based features for smart search, as well as a response template generator for help desk experts. In the future, the portal team intends to create an AI assistant.
In early November, the British Collins Dictionary announced that the word of the year would be the phrase “artificial intelligence.”
