The success came after the successful stacking of the rocket’s payload fairing, which housed the Astrobotic rover ready to head to the Moon. Designed to replace ULA’s Atlas V and Delta IV rockets, the Vulcan rocket promises to increase the company’s launch rate, with a goal of an average of two launches per month by 2025.

ULA, a joint venture between Boeing and Lockheed Martin, has sold 70 Vulcan launch vehicles so far, and Amazon has purchased 38 of them for its Project Kuiper broadband network.

In the face of fierce competition from SpaceX, the debut of Vulcan with the Astrobotic lunar probe looks quite “solid”, but it remains to wait for the launch itself to draw conclusions.
