In the 2024-2025 academic year, tuition fees at Russian private universities may increase by 12%. This is what the president of the Association of Private Universities, Vladimir Zernov, told Izvestia.
He cited rising equipment costs due to work stoppages by foreign suppliers as the cause of the price increase. In addition, the increase in tuition prices is due to the increase in prices for housing and communal services and compensation for teachers’ salaries.
“The Ministry of Education is unlikely to allocate additional funds to universities. Most likely, they themselves will have to find a way out of this situation. This will increase the cost of education. According to our estimates, this will occur between 10% and 12%,” Zernov said.
In REU im. GV Plekhanov confirmed his intention to adjust tuition fees. The institution explained such plans due to “the increase in costs for the implementation of educational programs.”
In technical and engineering areas, the tuition price will increase by 5% to 8%. Humanitarian and socioeconomic areas will become more expensive by between 8% and 15%.
Last year, leading Russian universities, including MSU, MIPT, St. Petersburg State University, MEPhI, HSE, MSTU, MGIMO, St. Petersburg Polytechnic University and RANEPA, increased tuition fees by an average of 12%. According to Vedomosti, Enrollment increased the most at HSE, MEPhI, St. Petersburg State University and RANEPA.
