Starting January 26, when users request these features, they will receive notifications warning them that these features will be removed soon. Google Assistant Vice President Duke Doukellis emphasized that the company is committed to improving the Assistant based on user feedback.
Remote features include managing cookbooks, sending emails, moving events to Google Calendar by voice, and using the App Launcher in Google Assistant driving mode in Google Maps. Google focuses on remaining options and alternative methods.
Google is also making changes to the way Assistant works on phones. The microphone icon in the Google search bar no longer launches the Assistant, but instead launches Google voice search, which the company describes as its “most popular use case.”
“Hey Google” and long-pressing the power button will continue to activate Assistant as before.
