A geolocation database of IP addresses may appear in Russia. Roskomnadzor introduced a similar initiative, which is the subject of public debate due to the increase in DDoS attacks. The database will be updated periodically.
Roskomnadzor took the initiative to create geolocation databases of IP addresses. The department’s order was published on the portal of draft regulatory legal acts.
“Its creation will make it possible to align the digital border of the state with the physical borders of the Russian Federation,” says the explanatory note to the document.
The decision to create a database is due to the intensification of DDoS attacks and the increase in their number. According to Roskomnadzor, most of these attacks occur against government and socially important resources and come from abroad.
