This volume of data highlights the scale and efficiency of the laser communications system used in the Starlink constellation, which has thousands of satellites.

Sharing this information, SpaceX engineer Travis Brashears noted that the system can transmit data at terabit speed per second using 9,000 lasers.

Supporting connections at speeds of up to 100 Gbps per link, these laser links play an important role in providing low latency and global coverage, especially in locations where SpaceX ground stations are not available, such as oceans or Antarctica.

The system creates an inter-satellite network, allowing data transfer from one satellite in Earth’s orbit to another, creating a high-speed network in space.
