At the beginning of 2024, dozens of Tesla electric cars were immobilized in Chicago due to sudden frosts. Many drivers did not follow Tesla’s recommendations for dealing with extreme cold and were unprepared for sudden weather conditions.

Many cars had supercooled batteries, so even blowing them up didn’t help, although the heat pumps didn’t turn on most of the time. Electric vehicle owners have also encountered frozen charging ports.

The released update will fix such errors. The update notes say that the charging port will automatically begin defrosting when the driver uses Tesla’s navigation function to reach a charging station. In addition, thanks to the update, the electric car will inform the driver about how long it will take until the battery heats up enough to quickly charge the Supercharger.
