This milestone marks a new era in space exploration in which private companies play an increasingly important role. Odysseus reached the surface of the Moon’s south polar region today, February 23, 2024.
The landing was not without problems: Due to problems with the laser rangefinders, the landing had to be delayed for two hours. But Intuitive Machines engineers coped with the situation and Odysseus successfully reached the surface of our satellite.
For the first time in history, a private spacecraft landed on the Moon. Odyssey carries on board a variety of scientific instruments that will be used to study the lunar soil and atmosphere.
Additionally, the module is equipped with a camera that will broadcast video from the lunar surface.
