The upcoming flight will be significantly different from the previous two attempts, which both ended in failure. Instead of orbiting and reentering the atmosphere and crashing near Hawaii, Starship will now target the Indian Ocean, where it will crash about 65 minutes after liftoff.

One of the most important tests involves firing the Raptor engine in space, something SpaceX has never done before. It will also test the opening and closing of the payload bay door, which is required to launch Starlink satellites in future missions.

Another important test involves transferring fuel to Starship. The technology, funded in part by a NASA grant, paves the way for future tests in which one Starship will refuel another in orbit.
