Under the new rule, almost all employees will be divided into two categories: those who work in the office and those who work remotely. Those who choose to work remotely may face limitations on career advancement and movement between departments.

These changes caused anger among company employees. One person who works close to senior management expressed his disappointment, speaking on condition of anonymity due to fears for his career. In its statement, the company emphasized the importance of combining personal communication with flexible working methods to foster innovation and value creation.

The changes run counter to previously stated positions by Dell founder and CEO Michael Dell, who has expressed support for remote work. But that changed in early 2023, when the company issued a new mandate requiring all employees living within an hour’s drive of the office to report to work at least three days a week.

Experts in the field of organizational psychology see such moves as a panic response to the economic crisis and following public sentiment rather than maintaining effective working practices.
