Representatives of cultural organizations in Brazil sent a letter to the Federal Senate expressing their concerns regarding the discussion of a new bill. The case includes: Artificial intelligence (AI) regulation and copyright questions in Brazil.

More specifically, the document calls for the rights of artists and companies to be taken into account in this debate. Using products such as books, movies, music and videos to feed AI databases and language models.

The letter was signed by a copyright commission consisting of the OAB, the Brazilian Chamber of Books (CBL), the Brazilian Press Association (ABI), Pró-Música Brasil, the Brazilian Association of Radio and Television Broadcasters (Abert) and the Brazilian Copyright Council Association. ( ABDA ), in addition to other organizations.

In general, the organizations’ demands include the protection of intellectual property and copyrights in the country. Unauthorized use of materials has been a frequent topic of discussion among companies such as Google and OpenAI, which owns ChatGPT.

European legislation on the subject recently approved in the region already includes guidance on copyright protection against AI platforms. It is considered one of the sources of inspiration for organizations’ charters.
