The Israeli Iron Dome system, which has been the main system for over a decade, has demonstrated its effectiveness. This network of air defense batteries uses radar to detect incoming threats and launches interceptor missiles to destroy those on their way to attack populated areas. Although the Iron Dome is designed for missiles, it is also suitable for drones. Their slower speed makes them easier to track and intercept than high-speed missiles. However, their numbers still pose a problem.

The Iranian attack relied heavily on Shahed drones, which are cheap, slow and designed to explode on impact.

But Israel’s defenses go beyond the Iron Dome. Arrow systems can intercept ballistic missiles, and David’s Sling provides additional protection against drone swarms. It has also been reported that Israel jammed GPS signals to disrupt drone navigation.

Their American counterparts also did their part by intercepting more than 70 drones and ballistic missiles. The UK also provided support for the drone response.

Iran declared the attack over but warned of a harsher response to any future Israeli aggression.
