Bumble founder Whitney Wolfe Herd told the Bloomberg Tech Summit in San Francisco that the future of dating apps is AI avatars that can communicate with each other without the participation of their owners and make recommendations to people for future appointments.

“Imagine a world where your dating concierge could go and schedule a date with another dating concierge… and then you wouldn’t have to talk to 600 people,” Heard said, as quoted by NBC News.
The emergence of generative AI, which can learn to imitate specific people, has generated much speculation on the topic. And lately, AI-based dating assistants like YourMove.AI or Volar are gaining more and more attention.
Not Surprisingly, Short Videos of Heard’s Bloomberg Summit Speech Won more than 10 million views on X. Many didn’t like the idea: some felt that AI avatars would worsen people’s isolation and loneliness online.
Hurd believes that, on the contrary, artificial intelligence will be able to identify negative patterns in communication, improve the quality of communication through recommendations, and help everyone “create healthier, more equitable relationships.”
A Bumble spokesperson, in response to an official inquiry from NBC News, confirmed that the company shares Heard’s sentiments: the company “sees a future where AI can continue to enable” the development of positive relationships between people.
He also highlighted that Bumble has already implemented several AI-powered features in the app, including a matchmaking recommendation page, a spam detector, and an obscene image blocker.
