As Reuters highlights, the network was launched to improve access to the Internet and medical services in remote areas of Indonesia. The initiator of the cooperation was the country’s Minister of Health, Budi Gunadi Sadikin.
The launch ceremony took place on the island of Bali, where, in addition to Musk and Sadikin, Indonesia’s communications and maritime transport services were present.
The head of the local Health Ministry said Starlink would be useful mainly for 2,700 medical centers that had difficulty accessing the Internet and another 700 that did not have access.
Indonesia is the third country in Southeast Asia where Starlink will operate. Neighboring Malaysia authorized the company to provide internet services last year and the Philippines signed an agreement with SpaceX in 2022.
In addition, according to the press service of the President of Sri Lanka, the head of the island state met with Elon Musk in Indonesia to discuss the implementation of Starlink in Sri Lanka.
