French citizens created a website and an algorithm that calculates the time it takes for poop to reach the Seine River, depending on how far a person is from Paris. The project is part of a protest organized by the population of the French capital, which eventually became a trending topic on X (formerly Twitter).
The organizers of the action are calling on citizens through the hashtag #JeChieDansLaSeineLe23Juin (#EuDefecareiNoSenaDia23deJunho). The aim is to ridicule French President Emmanuel Macron and Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo.
Two politicians have vowed to swim in the River Seine to prove that the river can host some of the water events for the 2024 Olympic Games.
The Olympics will start on July 24 (the opening will be on July 26), but experts say that the river is not yet suitable for swimming and something needs to be done before the games start.
The government announced that work to clean up the river would cost £1.2 billion (just over R$8 billion), angering Parisians. Now, they want to dump as much poop as possible into the River Seine, on the very day that Macron and Hidalgo decided to prove that the river is clean.
Website calculates when poop will reach the Seine
Protest organizers created a website called “EuDefecareiNoSenaDia23deJunho” to “smear” Macron and Hidalgo’s bathroom.
The website has an algorithmic calculator that allows citizens to enter how far (in kilometers) they are from Paris. By clicking “calculate,” the website indicates when a person would have to defecate at home for the poop to reach the Seine at exactly noon on July 23.
There is also a timer showing how much time is left until the event. In this case, it’s not the Olympics, it’s the defecation flash mob. The game can be viewed at https://jechiedanslaseinele23juin.fr/.
“Poop protest” memes
There is a real rebellion behind the “poo protest,” as France’s complaint is called. Another slogan says, “After they put us in our shit, it’s up to them to bathe in our shit.”
Even with a serious tone, it was impossible to contain the proliferation of memes on the subject that took over French social networks.
