Among the noisy cases of people using Apple AirTags to track their ex-partners, one case in Toronto, Canada, had a happy ending. In the incident, a man named Lorne His car was stolen twice in three months.from his downtown garage, but managed to track down and retrieve the second vehicle with Apple’s tracking device.
The first theft took place on April 2, the day after the victim and his family had moved to the central area. While Lorne joins a Geek Squad team that installs TV equipment, she places the keys of her Range Rover Autobiography in a specially designed faraday box to prevent fake key duplication.
However, shortly after the technicians left, the owner went to the garage and noticed that his vehicle had been taken away in broad daylight. “The thieves managed to disable my car tracker installed by the manufacturer”said Lorne.
Finding the second stolen car with AirTags
A month later, Lorne bought a new vehicle of the same model, but was careful to put three follow-up AirTags inside: one in the glove compartment, one in the trunk spare tire and the third under the rear seat. Last Wednesday (22) he forgot to hide the car in the garage, and the next day history repeated itself: the car disappeared in the morning.
At the same time, Lorne accessed Apple’s Find My appand three AirTags at a location listed as a metal recycling facility on the east side of the Canadian capital. After dropping the children off at school, he ran to the address and called the police, but when he didn’t answer, he went to the nearest police station.
The car was recovered the same day.
