Researchers have studied various crumpled graphene and metal composite materials and compiled a database of their mechanical and physical properties. This database can be useful for creating new materials with desired properties. The main goal of the research is to help engineers and scientists model composites by providing accurate parameters for the synthesis of materials.

Graphene and metal-based composite materials are widely used in various industries, including electronics, mechanical engineering, aerospace, and space. Researchers use computer models to perform preliminary simulations before synthesizing such materials. Special attention is paid to the selection of the interatomic interaction potential, which determines the physical and chemical properties of the material. This parameter is critical to accurately reflecting the properties of the composite in the model.

Researchers from the Institute of Superplasticity Problems of Metals of the Russian Academy of Sciences have created a database of basic properties for modeling composite materials based on crumpled graphene and metals. They studied several structural variants of such materials and determined the optimal interatomic interaction potentials for each of them. These data are now publicly available, facilitating further research in the synthesis and modeling of composite materials.

“Our work is significant because for the first time we were able to select the interatomic interaction potentials for various graphene-metal composites. These data will help to speed up and improve the process of creating new composite materials with specific properties,” notes Yulia Baimova, IPSM RAS project manager and head of the youth laboratory “Physics and Mechanics of Carbon Nanomaterials”.
