The industry’s full-year forecast was raised to ¥4.25 trillion ($26 billion) from the previous estimate of ¥4.03 trillion. Increased investment is expected to boost sales by another 10% to ¥4.68 trillion by March 2026, with sales expected to reach ¥5.15 trillion by March 2027.
Memory chipmaker SK Hynix plans to invest $75 billion by 2028 to meet the growing demand for high-bandwidth memory (HBM) needed for Nvidia’s AI accelerators. The HBM market is currently dominated by South Korean companies SK Hynix and Samsung, followed by American chipmaker Micron.
Globally, many countries and regions, including the United States and China, are increasing efforts to strengthen domestic manufacturing to maintain a competitive advantage in AI technologies.
