The current “evolution” of the Apple Watch design has been gradual and not particularly radical: over the years, only the bezels have been reduced, with the exception of the Apple Watch Ultra, while the design philosophy remains the same. Many, including Filipe Esposito of 9to5Mac, argue that the current rectangular design strikes the “right balance” between functionality and aesthetics, and “sets itself apart” from its round rivals.

Philippe Esposito stresses that improvements such as improved battery life and new health sensors are desirable, but that a complete overhaul of the design may not be necessary as the current form factor “effectively meets user needs.”
