FACCT (formerly Group-IB) experts have recorded a sharp increase in the activity of investment fraudsters. In 2024, the number of domains associated with this activity increased by 25% compared to 2022 and reached 10,000.
In the first five months of 2024, the number of advertising posts on social media encouraging people to visit fraudulent investment sites increased 40-fold compared to the same period in 2023: from 201 to 7,869 posts.
Experts say scammers distribute ads primarily through instant messaging, social media, video hosting sites and email.
The increase in the activity of investment scammers is associated with the popularization of illegal affiliate programs, which allow illegal business to grow.
