Information about the attack became “public” in a series of leaks starting in April 2024. The stolen database was initially offered for sale by someone known as USDoD, who asked for $3.5 million for 2.9 billion records. Later, another person, Fenice, distributed a more complete version of the database containing 2.7 billion records.
While NPD is working with law enforcement to investigate the breach, many affected individuals remain in the dark due to limited access to the stolen data. The data breach has led to a class action lawsuit against NPD’s operator, Jerico Pictures.
