The contract is part of the DEUCSI program, which aims to build military networks using commercial space-based Internet systems such as Starlink, OneWeb, SES O3b and others. Northrop Grumman will develop high-bandwidth, multi-band satellite communications antennas for installation on military aircraft.

The DEUCSI program is part of a broader Department of Defense initiative to improve the U.S. military’s ability to share information among land, sea and air forces.

As SpaceNews notes, a number of defense contractors, including L3Harris Technologies, Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin, Raytheon and BAE Systems, are developing antennas and technologies to provide military access to commercial internet services across orbits using common equipment.
