The FTC’s complaint underscores that DoNotPay failed to substantiate its claims that its AI chatbot could replace a “human legal representative.” Additionally, the company did not retain a single licensed attorney to support its offerings.

As part of the proposed agreement, DoNotPay is also required to inform customers who sign up for its services between 2021 and 2023 about the limitations and possible shortcomings of its services.

The company has also been criticized by many state bar associations.
