The South Korean company said the updated chip, the world’s first 12-layer HBM3E, has a capacity of 36 gigabytes (50% more than the previous generation) without increasing the physical size.
SK Hynix aims to deliver the updated chips by the end of the year. High-bandwidth memory chips designed to solve artificial intelligence problems have begun to play a decisive role in the rapidly developing media authoring industry.
Optimism also supported other Asian chip stocks, including Samsung Electronics and Tokyo Electron, which rose significantly in Thursday’s trading session.
