The attack exposed email addresses, usernames, password change timestamps, and other information associated with more than 31 million unique email addresses. Users who attempt to access the Internet Archive site see an alert stating that the site is “temporarily offline” and links to the Wayback Machine also do not work.
Kahl reported the situation on social media, saying: “Data is safe. Services are disabled while we test and harden them. I’m sorry, but it’s necessary. The @internetarchive team is working hard.” He also emphasized that the organization is doing everything possible to restore services as quickly as possible.
