According to him, the new device will combine the speaker and screen functions of the HomePod to control a smart home. The smart display will be equipped with a stand in the shape of the iMac G4 all-in-one launched in January 2002. Due to its design, the device is called “Jobs Lamp” after Apple founder Steve Jobs.

The device will have a square screen, about the size of two iPhones. The base will likely house speakers, effectively turning the device into a HomePod with a screen, Gurman noted. The device will run a new operating system with FaceTime, Notes and Calendar applications, among others.

According to Bloomberg, the smart display will be introduced in 2025 and will be the first of two devices in Apple’s new line. The second, more expensive device will have a larger screen and a robotic stand, allowing it to be used for video conferencing and multimedia playback. This device will cost around $1,000 and will not appear before 2026, Gurman previously reported.
