The system uses graphene sensors that act like an artificial nose, reacting to poisonous gas molecules. When nitrogen dioxide molecules bind to graphene, its conductivity changes, allowing gas leaks to be detected with high sensitivity.
The team is confident that the system can significantly improve safety in industrial environments, urban areas and even residential buildings by constantly monitoring air quality.
