Dubna State University employees have patented a unique technology to create an analytical label for biomedical research. As explained by project leader Professor Pavel Gladyshev, the technology is based on the use of multilayer quantum dots coated with a polymer and equipped with antibodies. This innovation helps increase the sensitivity of immunochromatographic tests, making them more accurate in detecting biomarkers in blood and other body fluids.

The method creates water-soluble quantum dots, which are then processed into target proteins, increasing the accuracy of the analyses. Teacher Sagila Novikova states that the correct placement of antibodies on the label almost doubles the sensitivity, which is critical for early detection of diseases. The university is confident that this discovery will form the basis for the development of rapid tests that will help quickly diagnose diseases, including viral infections.

The project was carried out within the framework of the UMNIK program and has already been used in tests for virus detection. Scientists also continue their research on the use of boron quantum dots in cancer diagnosis and treatment.
